Qualification regulation and support

The Highfield Level 4 Award in Managing Food Safety in Catering has been developed and is awarded by Highfield Qualifications and sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). The RQF is a qualification framework regulated by Ofqual.

Guidance on assessment

This qualification is assessed by a 2-part examination:

  • part one is a 30-question multiple-choice examination
  • part two is a written examination where learners must answer choose 4 questions. The total mark available in this section is 70 marks

    Successful learners must achieve a total of at least 50 marks out of 100 across the two parts of the exam. A Merit will be awarded at 60/100 and a Distinction will be awarded at 70/100. The duration of the examination is 2 1⁄2 hours.

    Centres must take all reasonable steps to avoid any part of the assessment of a learner (including any internal quality assurance and invigilation) being undertaken by any person who has a personal interest in the result of the assessment.

    Progression opportunities

    Upon successful completion of this qualification, learners may wish to continue their development by undertaking one of the following qualifications:

  • Level 5 Food Safety qualifications
  • Hospitality competency-based qualifications
